The stakes are high for HR departments heading into 2025. Teams are expected to design learning and development strategies that not only keep pace with new technologies, but also empower employees through personalised training to enhance their skills.
Embraced and adopted in the right way, AI has the potential to revolutionise HR operations, by eliminating time-consuming, repetitive tasks and freeing professionals to focus on value-add areas of their role. What changes can we expect in the sector over the next 12 months?
AI will ease demands for reskilling and upskilling on HR teams
Upskilling and reskilling will be at the heart of HR strategies in the year ahead. In response, we will see a rise in AI-enabled course creation to help augment and maximise L&D resources and deliver personalised learning at scale.
Technology – in particular, AI – is moving at a pace that many L&D departments cannot match. 81% of workers say the introduction of new technology has already impacted the skills required to perform their role, while more than half expect AI will have a major impact on their role within two years. Preparing the workforce for these changes will be one of the biggest challenges businesses face in the coming years.
The old approach of linear training curricula – inevitably off-target for some, sometimes disruptive to urgent taskwork – delivered en masse will be less tenable. Instead, a hybrid approach, blending some still-valid linear coursework with rich new interactive assets and experiences, will become the norm.
Personalised training regimes are becoming more economically and logistically feasible, even for a large-scale enterprise with thousands of users. Modern interactive learning platforms drive the paradigm shift, with a big assist from conscientiously deployed AI.
Productivity will increase in 2025 thanks to personalised L&D
Powered by the shift to AI-assisted in-the-flow training creating dynamic learning experiences and tailored upskilling opportunities, employee productivity will be boosted in 2025.
More finely honed skills mean faster, more accurate staff output. Workers will also feel more empowered by greater access to development opportunities that align to their future career ambitions. This combination of development and empowerment will move the dial on slowed productivity – creating workforces that are capable and willing to go the extra mile.
Tick box compliance will be in the hot seat
2025 will see a big shift in how corporate companies approach training and education around policies, procedures and compliance. The legacy tick box mentality will give way to interactive and engaging training in a bid to increase worker compliance and reduce risk.
The tragic case involving a Costa Coffee employee – who, despite receiving allergy training, did not follow prescribed procedures, which sadly resulted in the death of a young girl –illustrates the human cost of poor employee training. But the issue is widespread.
There is a clear case for better employee education around policies and procedures. 73% of business and HR leaders say the most common reasons employees give for violating a policy or procedure is that they either didn’t know or didn’t understand it. And while 98% think more engaging training and education around policies would help to drive greater compliance, two thirds admit that educating employees is often an afterthought.
While businesses have traditionally been constrained by a lack of resources, in 2025 the tables will turn. Spurred on by developments in AI, compliance training will be revitalised – moving away from passive, one-time training sessions to more ingrained and continuous learning models with bite-sized instructional support delivered at the right moment and in the right context.
Looking into 2025
AI will play a pivotal role in enhancing learning and development strategies, making it essential for businesses to prepare their workforce for the AI revolution. By delivering personalised L&D experiences that drive productivity, and by transforming compliance training into more engaging and impactful sessions, AI-powered solutions will empower both employees and HR teams to thrive in this new era.
By fostering continuous learning and development, businesses will not only stay competitive but also foster a more confident workforce ready to embrace the challenges of the future. Led by training, communication and development, businesses can create a culture of continuous learning. With staff empowered to adapt to new skills and challenges, the entire organisation benefits.
