India’s travel and hospitality sector sees 64% workforce expansion

India’s travel and hospitality industry is experiencing a resurgence, with 64% of employers expanding their workforce to meet increasing demand. This growth is fueled by rising air travel, religious tourism, and the demand for personalized, tech-enabled experiences.

The “Employment Outlook Report (EOR) for H1 FY25” highlights a net employment change of 9.86%, indicating a significant rebound from previous years. Key cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are seeing substantial hiring activity, with 58%, 57%, and 55% of employers expanding their teams, respectively.

Emerging job markets like Pune and Chennai are also experiencing a surge in hiring, according to the report by TeamLease Services.

Sales roles are particularly sought after, with 82% of employers prioritising these positions. Marketing roles, especially in digital and offline promotion, are also in high demand, with 44% of employers focusing on these areas. Seasonal hiring is expected to increase by 25-30% during peak travel periods.

Kartik Narayan, CEO of Staffing at TeamLease Services, noted the sector’s growth potential, stating, “India’s travel and hospitality sector is at the cusp of unprecedented growth. The rising demand for premium travel experiences, coupled with innovations in technology, is creating a catalytic impact on how the industry operates.”

The report also underscores the rising importance of religious tourism and solo travel in driving sector expansion.
