Why digital investment is critical for improving the employee experience

Despite the Covid crisis starting to feel at long last like a distant memory, many industries are still experiencing a recruitment and retention crisis as they struggle to move on from the disruption it caused.

Take the aviation industry, for example, where employment stability and the contract structure of pilots and airline staff has resulted in 63% of pilots globally planning on switching jobs in the next 12 months.

Research by digital customer experience agency Great State suggests that the employee experience is still a determining factor when it comes to talent retention. From retail to healthcare, hospitality to education, high levels of stress and burnout are common factors when it comes to job dissatisfaction and lack of employee engagement.

So what lessons can be learnt from organisations which have started to take the overall employee experience they provide seriously, by creating digital services designed to make working life easier and more fulfilling.

Would you be interested in a piece by Stuart Avery, CEO at Great State, discussing how digital transformation is a critical tool when it comes to the employee experience and ultimately retention. Just as customer experience has become the business mantra of consumer brands – HR directors must embrace a similar strategic approach to their workforce.

For industries still in recovery, a critical aspect of investing in employee engagement is cost. Stuart will set out why state-of-the-art service development for employees can by iterative, rather than an off-the-shelf one size fits all solutions that cost tens of millions.

The article will include examples of industries that would benefit from this approach, such as the aviation industry which is struggling to recruit based on “death from 1000 cuts” during the pandemic with pilots now feeling that their status, treatment and conditions have deteriorated.

We can also include within the article the award-winning work that Great State has done with the Royal Navy to help them tackle their human resource challenge in using a digital tool to enhance the working lives of the Navy’s serving personnel, reservists, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and civil servants. This is totally optional and dependent on the style of article.
