73% Increase in Searches for ‘Health & Safety At Work’

As World Day for Safety and Health at Work approaches this Friday, safety experts at FirstMats have seen an increase of 73% in searches for “health and safety at work”. This surge in demand for safety-related information highlights the growing concern among workers for their safety in the workplace.

In today’s fast-paced world, the pressures of work can often lead to employees neglecting their safety. To address this issue, FirstMats have put together some quick tips on how to stay safe while at work. 

Keep your work area clean and organised to prevent tripping hazards.Always use appropriate safety equipment, such as gloves, hard hats, or safety glasses.Take regular breaks to prevent eye strain, back pain, and other common work-related injuries.Maintain good posture while sitting or standing to prevent strains and sprains.Avoid distractions like texting or browsing the internet while operating heavy machinery.Never lift objects that are too heavy for you or lift with your back instead of your legs.Report any hazards or unsafe working conditions to your supervisor immediately.Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid walking into danger zones or hazardous areas.Take care of your mental health by managing stress and seeking support when needed.Attend any safety training provided by your employer and follow all safety protocols and procedures.

In addition to their safety tips, FirstMats conducted an analysis of workplace accidents in 2022 and determined which region in the UK had the highest number of incidents.

The data revealed that East Midlands, a region with a strong focus on engineering and manufacturing, had taken the top spot for workplace accidents in the UK. Shockingly, according to the study, the region reported 269 accidents per 100,000 employees, representing an increase of 14% since 2021.
