1 in 10 Brits log off work early when it’s sunny outside

New data reveals the dates to book annual leave in 2024 for the best weather, to avoid missing out

When a heatwave hits the UK, everyone is itching to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. The sunny weather calls for fun times with friends – whether in a pub garden, the beach or even a last-minute staycation. 

A survey of 2,000 Brits from Parkdean Resorts revealed that 1 in 10 Brits have left work early to creep off and enjoy the sunshine, and 4% even admit to ‘pulling a sickie’ during a heatwave

With this in mind, Parkdean Resorts has predicted when heatwaves will grace the UK this summer so Brits can get their annual leave booked in advance. Analysing the past five years of weather data in the UK to find the ultimate heatwave dates – the best dates for a summer break have been uncovered. 

The best dates to book annual leave so you won’t miss a heatwave this summer

The data revealed that the hottest days of the whole year are expected to fall from Wednesday 17th July – Friday 19th July, where in the past five years temperatures have been a scorching 28.2 °C on average, making it perfect for a summer break from the desk. 

Science shows that the second hottest spell is predicted to fall in August from Wednesday 7th August – Tuesday 13th August. In the past five years, temperatures during these dates have averaged 27.2 °C, meaning that this year will be set for sunshine too.

For employees looking for some time off during June, Saturday 22nd June – Friday 28th June set to reach 25.2 °C based on temperature averages over the last five years.
