TCS bucks trend, adds 5,400 employees in Q1 FY25

Defying industry trends, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added 5,452 employees in the first quarter of FY25, bringing its total headcount to 606,998. This net addition comes at a time when many IT services firms have slowed hiring.

Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer, attributed the net headcount addition to TCS’s continued focus on employee engagement and development, resulting in industry-leading retention and strong business performance.

“I am delighted to announce the successful completion of our annual increment process. Our continued focus on employee engagement and development led to industry-leading retention and strong business performance, with the net headcount addition being a matter of immense satisfaction,” added Milind.

The company’s IT services attrition rate continued its downward trend, reaching a low of 12.1% for the last twelve months. TCS has long prided itself on its diverse workforce, with women now constituting 35.5% of its employees and a global representation of 151 nationalities.

The company’s focus on continuous learning was evident, with TCSers clocking 11 million learning hours and acquiring 1.2 million competencies during the quarter. This emphasis on upskilling and reskilling is crucial in an industry where technological change is rapid and constant.

TCS’s efforts in creating a positive work environment continue to garner recognition. The company was ranked #1 in LinkedIn’s “Top Companies to Work for in India 2024” list and was featured in similar lists for the UK and Switzerland. It was also named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in Spain” by Forbes Spain for the second consecutive year.

In North America, TCS was recognized for its employee engagement strategies, winning a Gold award in the “Outstanding Employee Engagement Strategy” category at the Golden Bridge Awards 2024. The company was also ranked #6 in “North America’s Top 100 Inspiring Workplaces” by The Inspiring Workplaces Group Ltd for its ‘people-first’ approach.

As TCS navigates a complex global landscape, its focus on talent management, employee development, and fostering a diverse and skilled workforce will be crucial for continued success.
