Govt to extend easy visa norms for PLI sector companies

The government is working to simplify the application process for Indian business visas for companies that have established manufacturing units in the 14 sectors covered under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme but are not direct beneficiaries of the scheme.

“We already have a streamlined process for PLI beneficiaries. We’re aiming to extend this to other non-PLI beneficiaries operating in these strategic sectors. We are currently developing a similar streamlined process for these non-PLI beneficiaries within the PLI sectors,” Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), was quoted as saying. The DPIIT falls under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

“A final decision has not yet been made, but we are moving in that direction. Hopefully, it will be accomplished soon. Visa matters are handled by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs,” added the industry secretary.

The PLI scheme includes 14 sectors such as mobile phones, drones, white goods, telecommunications, textiles, automobiles, specialty steel, and pharmaceutical drugs, among others.
