TechHR India 2024 kicks off with a call for a new era of leadership

The much-awaited TechHR India 2024 kicked off today. Ester Martinez, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of People Matters, set the stage by urging leaders to embrace a collaborative, ecosystem-driven approach to the new world of work. As Asia’s largest HR and Work Tech event began, Ester shared her vision of a future where success relies on shared purpose, employee well-being, and a holistic business strategy.

Ester posited that true success now relies on a shared purpose and a fundamental rethinking of leadership roles and organisational structures. “In a world where conventional approaches fall short,” she asserted, “we must cultivate a value-driven, collaborative system that fosters adaptability and drives meaningful change.”

Reflecting on the early days of People Matters TechHR, Ester reminisced about the challenges faced in 2014. “We faced immense uncertainty and high stakes,” she recalled. “We had a rare opportunity to establish Asia’s largest HR and Work Tech conference.”

Today, TechHR has become a prominent name not only in India but across several regions, embodying its initial vision. It has evolved into a leading platform, setting the standard for innovation and excellence in HR and technology throughout the region.

Ester underscored a pivotal shift from ego-centric to eco-centric leadership. The era of individual glory and stability is yielding to a collaborative, purpose-driven model. She stressed the need for leaders to rethink roles and organisational structures. This demands a transition from mere skill development to a broader, ecosystem-focused approach.

Ester’s keynote also drove home the necessity of a holistic approach to business success. “It’s not enough to focus solely on financial gains,” she asserted. “True success requires us to prioritise the well-being of our employees, customers, and communities.” By broadening our perspective, Ester argued, businesses can build more sustainable and resilient organisations.

Leadership driven by tech and well-being

The potential of technology and the pressing need for human-centric leadership took centre stage at TechHR India 2024. Ester highlighted key insights that underscore the conference’s forward-thinking agenda.

Harnessing technology: Ester highlighted AI’s role as a democratising force, that can help unlock new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike. She advocated for broader adoption of digital technologies to drive innovation and growth.

Prioritising mental health: By fostering psychologically safe environments, companies can enhance productivity, innovation, and retention. “With one in four people affected by mental illness,” she stated, “it’s imperative to create workplaces where employees feel truly valued and supported.”

Building sustainable businesses: Ester concluded her keynote by calling for sustainable and resilient organisations. By adopting sustainable practices and investing in communities, organisations can create long-term value and strengthen their reputations.

As TechHR India 2024 unfolds, attendees can anticipate a series of sessions and workshops aimed at challenging traditional approaches and driving meaningful change. Celebrated as Asia’s largest HR and Work Tech event, the conference offers an evolving, experience-focused platform.
